My City of Yore

Having stayed in Bangalore for the past 6 years, I have often been greeted by remarks from old-time Bangalore-wallahs that the city has transformed beyond belief. When I talk to my dad, he tells me similar stories about Delhi. And I am quite sure the same is true with most big cities of today across the world.

But it is so difficult to appreciate all this unless you have seen it for yourself.

As a part of an endeavor from Slice of Life, I announce a new project called "My City of Yore". The aim is that to conserve the many small and big memories of people who have seen these transformations by capturing anecdotes, pictures and if at all, videos. Each one of us picks up one (or more) city(ies) of our choice and pool in the material and share with the others...The mode of presentation could be a slideshow, presentation, photo album or video. The choice is ours...

What's your pick?

Spray Painting (for Beginners)

Recently, some friends gifted an amazing set of spray paints to me. And I have been wondering how to get started... Well, I began by taking the YouTube route to learning.

Wondering if someone has prior experience and can share more tips and pointers to this amazingly flexible, yet seemingly crafty form of painting. What are the ideal surfaces on which this form of painting can be tried?

An Indigenous Comic Strip

On the lines of comics like xkcd.com, SMBC comics, Minus and Indexed, I would like to start a new weekly comic strip - the idea is to keep it light and witty, and to present a common man's daily life juxtaposed against the banalities of world politics and the headline making news.

Am seeking other creative minds to work ideas and do the illustrations... Anyone interested?

Translation of Vernacular Writing

Having read a few translations of the excellent works by some of the authors in regional Indian languages (Kannada, Oriya, Malayalam), I have been amazed by how wonderfully limited our access to these marvels is. Many other works in international languages other than English meet the same fate. I want to propose a project where we translate works from these regional languages to English and others which are more accessible to a larger readers pool.
